Plusto Builds Small Businesses A Free Preview Website First

South African web studio and platform Plusto has launched a new web development initiative for small businesses. Instead of asking owners to pay a deposit and wait weeks for a first draft, Plusto designs a complete preview website for the business first, free and with no obligation.
According to the press release, the website preview is ready within 24 hours and stays live for seven (7) days, so owners have time to click through it, share it and decide before they pay anything.
“Most small business owners have been told that a good website takes months and a big deposit, so many simply go without,” said Adriaan Gie, founder of Plusto. “We turned that around. We build your website first and show it to you on your phone. If you like it, we launch it. If you don’t, you’ve lost nothing.”
What is Plusto?
Plusto is a South African web studio and platform, founded by Adriaan Gie and Frank Viljoen, that builds websites for small and growing businesses. Its services include website design, hosting and support, online shops (PlusCommerce), online courses (PlusLearn), search engine optimisation, and logo and graphic design. With roots on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast, Plusto has helped more than 800 clients and works with businesses across South Africa and around the world.
Businesses that want to sell online can add PlusCommerce, Plusto’s online shop, with checkout through PayFast and Paystack. PlusLearn lets coaches, trainers and schools sell and run online courses, and PlusMailer lets owners design the branded emails their customers receive. All are managed from the same admin dashboard.
The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Plusto’s Web Design
Plusto is open about how it uses artificial intelligence (AI). AI helps with the groundwork: page structure, first drafts of the text and layout options. A professional designer then shapes the design, chooses the images and checks every page before the client sees it. Nothing goes live without a person reviewing it, and after launch clients deal with real people who look after their website.
“AI lets us do the groundwork in hours instead of days, and that saving goes straight to our clients,” said Frank Viljoen, founder of Plusto. “But AI doesn’t know your customers or what makes you proud of your work. That’s why a designer shapes every site, and why our platform and visual editor are built so owners can keep their site up to date themselves while we keep it fast and secure.”
Industry Website Kits: How Plusto Works for Small Businesses
The Plusto website kits start from one of more than 25 industry kits, each designed for a specific kind of business, ranging from beauty salons, guesthouses, gyms, yoga studios and dentists to lawyers, architects, freight and logistics companies, nurseries, preschools, charities and restaurants.
Each website kit includes various elements that a business needs, such as price lists, booking and enquiry forms, opening hours, room cards, menus and galleries.
In addition to the website features, the platform has a library of 89 ready-made website sections, each available in light and dark designs, and lets the client add anything from before-and-after sliders to booking bars and review walls.
“Plusto can deliver a polished website in days rather than months, and a designer makes each site the client’s own, so it does not look like a template,” explains the company.
Plusto’s Visual Editor
Every Plusto website comes with access to Plusto’s visual editor, enabling owners to change their site themselves without technical skills. Business owners can click any text or photo to change it, then press Publish when they are ready; the layout stays as designed, so nothing breaks. Additionally, owners can also update opening hours, notice banners, price lists and events from their admin dashboard.
How Much Does It Cost?
Plusto has two ways in which it has priced its offering. If a client likes the website preview, they only pay for hosting and support services, from R3 050 a year (about R255 a month, billed annually) or R295 a month on a monthly plan, with text, image and menu changes and basic search engine optimisation included.
Plusto also offers search engine optimisation, logo and graphic design, and online shops, so owners have one point of contact for their whole online presence.
If a client has more specific requirements, additional functionality requirements, or more customised design, Plusto charges a once-off design fee of R 6 450.
Why Small Businesses Need Websites in 2026 (And Further)
There are many reasons to have a website, especially for small businesses. With the growth of e-commerce platforms, websites play a critical part in ensuring small businesses can access larger customer bases and remain visible.
Other reasons why small businesses need websites are:
1. Google Can’t Send Customers To Your Business
Google is the starting point for most consumers looking for a product or service. When someone searches for something, Google shows website results; social media pages are more keyword-intensive.
Without a website, your business is completely invisible to this large number of high-intent customers who are actively looking for what you can offer and have their wallets ready.
2. Websites Build Credibility
Anytime someone considers buying from a business they’ve never heard of, the first thing they do is Google it. If the business has a professional, well-designed website, it gives the potential customer reassurance that the business is legit.
3. Websites Work 24 Hours a Day
Social media pages require constant posting to ensure engagement does not drop and reach doesn’t collapse. Websites don’t need this same attention, staying open for business even on weekends and public holidays. Potential customers can find you, learn about your services, read your reviews, and submit an enquiry, all without you lifting a finger.
4. E-commerce Opens New Revenue Streams
Selling something online transforms your business model. Instead of being limited to local customers who walk through your door, you can sell to anyone in South Africa or beyond. With e-commerce in South Africa showing consistent growth, businesses with online stores will capture that growth and make more money.
