A person has died after being attacked by a tiger after leaping into its enclosure at a zoo in Yorkshire, police have mentioned.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park was evacuated shortly after the incident and the location will stay closed on Sunday.

South Yorkshire police mentioned that at 1.35pm it obtained reviews of a person coming into the enclosure on the zoo close to Doncaster.

The power mentioned the assault “resulted in severe damage”.

The assertion added: “Emergency companies attended and sadly, regardless of the perfect efforts of medical personnel, the person was pronounced lifeless on the scene.

“The man’s household is conscious and is being supported by specialist officers. Our ideas are with them at this distressing time.

“Regarding rumours surrounding the situation of the tiger, the animal was unhurt and remained within the enclosure following the incident and there’s no wider threat to the general public.”
