Rustable — It’s a database client. It’s written in Rust.

It’s Rust, compiled to WASM, running in your browser. Not a JavaScript rewrite. Just because we can. It’s Rust, dude. Try it.
The actual Rustable workspace · real SQLite + an in-memory Redis demo · disposable sample data. Use Connections (the plug icon) to switch between Studio demo and Redis demo. The Redis demo runs in Rust/WASM and supports a subset of Redis commands; run INFO for the list. Browse, query, edit, import, export. Reload resets both demos; saved queries stay in this browser. Open SQLite files as copies with ⌘O / Ctrl+O. Your originals stay untouched. Server connections need the desktop app.
Yes, we support your silly OS as well. Windows and Linux users, you’re welcome.
v0.4.8 · Early software. macOS is signed and notarized. Release notes & checksums ↗
Built for people who want to get their work done. Not clowns. 🤡 (Clowns may build from source.)
What’s in it
- Room for your databases
- Multiple connections, separate windows. Production gets its own alarming color. More database engines are on the way.
- The useful bits
- SSH tunnels, schema browsing, SQL tabs, saved queries, and edits you can review before saving.
- Less waiting around
- Reused connections. Virtualized rows. Work kept off the UI thread. Speed comes from doing less work, which suits us perfectly.
- Your monitor gets a say
- Built with egui: a native, GPU-rendered UI that can redraw at your monitor’s refresh rate. Smooth scrolling, resizing, and moving around your data. You bought the nice monitor. Might as well use it for something besides the mouse cursor.
- No browser included
- Rust + egui. You already have a browser. It’s displaying this website.
What’s supported
Five databases. One familiar workspace.
SQL databases: browse, query, import, export, and review row edits before saving. MySQL 8.4 and MariaDB 11.4 are tested. Standalone Redis 7.4 is now supported: key browsing, commands, string edits and TTL controls. Real Redis server connections are desktop-only; Cluster and Sentinel are not included.
A few entirely reasonable questions
Is it written in Rust?
Of course it is. We also use mise, and mise is written in Rust. That’s how you know it’s good. Please don’t ask any follow-up questions about this methodology.
100% Rust. We’re not kidding.
The app code, yes. Even GitHub says so. Check the sauce for yourself ↗
App language breakdown; packaging and benchmark scripts excluded.
Why did we start with PostgreSQL and SQLite?
Because PostgreSQL is the only correct choice for a server-side SQL database, and SQLite is obviously, objectively awesome. These are completely unbiased engineering conclusions.
MySQL and MariaDB are now available alongside PostgreSQL and SQLite. Standalone Redis is now available too. We can have opinions and still support your toy databases.
Built for pros?
Other database apps are built for pros. Rustable is built for bros. Same SQL. Less ceremony.
Handmade?
Every line, by skilled artisans. Our artisan is called Astra and works suspiciously quickly.
Fine. It’s vibe coded. You can read the source.
Faster than my current client?
Obviously, it’s written in Rust and uses mise and egui
What about Windows and Linux?
Native Windows and Linux builds, too. Yes, actual executables for your inferior operating system. Unlike certain database explorers that cost money and are closed sauce. Very generous of us.
Anything I should know before downloading?
Yes. Download v0.4.8 above. This is early software; we’re using it, finding rough edges, and working on it.
macOS: Apple Silicon, with automatic updates. Windows and Linux: x64 portable packages, manual updates for now. Linux needs Ubuntu 24.04 or compatible newer libraries. Built-in SSH tunnels are currently macOS/Linux only; Windows can use a direct connection or an external tunnel.
Anyway. Back to your database.
Having issues with the app? Sounds like a PICNIC problem.
