Navy plane crashes close to US air base

A navy plane has crashed close to the US air base in Spangdahlem, Germany, on Tuesday.

Local authorities within the distant Eifel area initially stated one individual was injured.

“Following a aircraft crash within the neighborhood of US Air Base Spangdahlem, hearth and emergency response groups from the Eifel District of Bitburg-Pruem have been dispatched to the scene,” the district stated on its web site.

“No feedback may be made on the additional particulars of the occasion from the aspect of the Eifel district at the moment.”

German information company DPA reported quickly after the information broke that the US Air Force didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

Spangdahlem is a US base positioned north of Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate, not far west of the border to Luxembourg. The NATO facility was constructed within the early Fifties, the US Air Force’s 52nd Fighter Wing is garrisoned there.
