Duties and Responsibilities:

Business Services

  • Prepare monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly management accounts for a portfolio of clients.
  • Prepare accurate and timely management reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and cashflow reporting.
  • Analyse financial performance and identify key business trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Understand and accurately account for stock movements, gross margins, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and financing arrangements.
  • Investigate unusual variances and raise queries with clients where appropriate.
  • Prepare annual financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders with limited assistance.
  • Complete and independently self-review compliance work, including workpapers and reconciliations.
  • Prepare budgets and basic forecasts with assistance.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and communicate financial information in a clear and practical manner.
  • Prepare workpapers in a logical and clear manner.
  • Manage workflow and time budgets effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Use live recording of time on timesheet (entering time as you go) and understand how to achieve productivity targets

Tax

  • Prepare all forms of income tax returns.
  • Prepare GST returns and assist with GST-related queries.
  • Calculate tax obligations for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals with limited assistance.
  • Conduct tax research and apply relevant legislation to client situations.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and escalate more complex matters to senior team members.
  • Understand the interaction between financial reporting outcomes and tax obligations.

Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in public practice accounting

  • Hands-on experience with New Zealand accounting and taxation
  • Experience preparing management accounts and annual financial statements.
  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including stock, margins, accruals and prepayments
  • Experience working with clients across various industries; experience with importing goods, inventory management, and goods-in-transit is preferred
  • Proficiency in Xero or other cloud-based accounting software

7:00 AM – 3:00 PM PH time (May start earlier, but no later than 7:30 AM, and must complete 8 working hours.)
