Man killed in shark assault close to Perth

A swimmer off the coast of Perth in Western Australia was killed by a shark on Friday, police mentioned.

Emergency companies have been known as to Sorrento Beach within the north of the town to seek for the person. Earlier, witnesses mentioned they’d watched the person being attacked by a shark, with blood pooling within the water, Australian media reported.

It is unclear whether or not any stays have been recovered, and no particulars of the sufferer’s id have but been shared.

“It was reported a male swimmer had been bitten by a shark whereas swimming alongside the coast,” a Western Australia state police spokeswoman mentioned in an announcement.

“The swimmer died because of the assault.”

The seashore was closed following the assault.

Friday’s incident could be the fifth deadly shark assault in Australia this 12 months. Previously, there have been 4 confirmed deadly shark assaults.

In May and June, three spearfishing divers have been killed by sharks in seperate incidents. In January, a 12-year-old boy died in hospital after being mauled by a bull shark in Sydney Harbor.

On Monday, a surfer was severely wounded within the leg close to the town of Geraldton, 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of Perth on Australia’s west coast.

Over the previous 25 years, Australia has averaged between two and three deadly shark assaults yearly, in accordance with the Australian Shark Incident Database.
