Kapil Pokhariya wins 90kg boxing bronze after semifinal loss to Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev at Asian Games

NEW DELHI: India’s Kapil Pokhariya gained a bronze medal after shedding his semifinal bout towards Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev within the males’s 90kg class on the Nishio Gymnasium in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Wednesday.Kapil went down 1-4 to Khabibullaev within the semifinal and missed out on a spot within the gold medal bout.The Uzbek boxer dominated the competition, with 4 of the 5 judges scoring all three rounds in his favour.Those 4 judges gave Khabibullaev a 30-27 win, whereas the fifth choose scored the bout 29-28 in favour of Kapil.Kapil had entered the semifinal after a formidable quarterfinal victory over South Korea’s Kim Gichae.He gained the quarterfinal by unanimous determination to safe his place within the final 4.
