Your wireless headphones have an expiration date, but this pair doesn’t

Wired headphones are built to last. Some of my favorite cans, including the Sennheiser HD 600, have been in production for decades, and original models are still around and in working order. The same can’t be said about wireless headphones. While convenient, wireless headphones have rechargeable batteries that will degrade over time. It’s easy to find a replacement battery for your phone, but it’s much trickier to find a replacement battery for your wireless headphones.
Luckily, audio manufacturers are starting to take headphone repairability seriously. The latest repairable headset to cross my desk is Logitech’s Zone Vibe Pro, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using it. Aside from the swappable ear pads, head strap, and battery, the Zone Vibe Pro headset is also designed to serve double duty in the office and on your daily commute.
If Logitech indeed makes parts and manuals available for the Zone Vibe Pro headset in the long run, it’ll have a real winner here.
Logitech’s Zone Vibe Pro is a stylish and comfortable headset
This is a rare pair of headphones that I can wear all day
Office headsets typically have ugly designs and boom microphones attached, but this one doesn’t. Logitech sent over the off-white colorway of the Zone Vibe Pro for testing, and it’s gorgeous. The cloud-like design reminds me a lot of the Sonos Ace, except it’s clear the Zone Vibe Pro has a more comfortable design. The headset has a head strap that ensures the fixed headband isn’t resting directly on your scalp.
This head strap design is used to distribute the weight and pressure of the headset across your head, so it isn’t causing discomfort in one place. The Zone Vibe Pro weighs 290 grams, and never felt uncomfortable on my head. I suspect that’s because of the head strap, because these aren’t the lightest wireless headphones on the block. Compared to the 386-gram AirPods Max 2 though, they’re a breath of fresh air — Apple’s headphone design is an example of what not to do.
As for the ear pads, they use dual-layer cushions with a surface material that looks like faux leather. The cushions squish to create a solid seal against your head, but spring back into shape quickly after taking the headset off. Consumer headphones typically don’t focus this much on comfort, but the Zone Vibe Pro is a dual-purpose headset designed to be worn all day long.
The controls are another hint that the Zone Vibe Pro is more than your average pair of ANC headphones. You get a power and Bluetooth switch, a microphone mute button, a volume rocker, and a call button that handles play/pause duties on the left ear cup. There’s also a multifunction button and a noise control button on the right ear cup. These are all physical buttons, which is nice for those that find gesture control or capacitive buttons frustrating.
Even though this headset doesn’t have a boom microphone, it does have six MEMS microphones used for ANC and calls. It uses AI-powered noise-canceling to isolate your voice during calls and meetings, and this all happens on-device. In terms of battery life, you get up to 18 hours of calling or 30 hours of listening with ANC enabled. If you turn ANC off, that figure jumps to 66 hours.
At $260, the Zone Vibe Pro headset is priced like a midrange pair of headphones. The sound is quite good for the price, offering a balanced sound that isn’t heavy on the bass. This makes for a comfortable listen, and I don’t find myself needing to turn the volume up often. A neat highlight of the Zone Vibe Pro is USB-C audio support, so you can plug the headset in for lossless audio playback.
The ear pads, head strap, and battery are replaceable
The Zone Vibe Pro is a rare wireless headset built to last
The Zone Vibe Pro is designed with repairable parts, and that’s great to see on a headset made for office and personal use. Swappable components are more common in the business world than the consumer market, and the Zone Vibe Pro strikes a balance between the two segments. You’d be mistaken for thinking this headset isn’t meant to be repaired, though. From the outside, it looks like a fortress, with no clear way in.
The ear pads are removable, and that’s the start of the process. You’ll need to grip the cushions tightly and pull with some force to remove them from the rest of the headset. At first, I thought I was going to break the Zone Vibe Pro in the process. However, there are plastic clips keeping the ear pads in pace, and with enough might, they’ll pop off.
After that, you’ll be able to see some of the wiring and the 40mm audio drivers inside the Zone Vibe Pro. Removing the ear cushions reveals four screws on each side, but only half of them use a standard Phillips head. You’ll need a basic electronics repair kit with the right driver heads and pry tools to get past this point, and when you do, you can reach the battery.
The ear cushions and head strap are the components that will most likely need replacement, and they’re easy to get to. Despite the sturdy plastic clips, it only takes a minute to pop off and reinstall the ear cushions. The head strap is even easier to remove and replace, as it pops off without much force required. In fact, you can use the Zone Vibe Pro without the strap entirely, as the built-in headband is padded as well.
It’s now up to Logitech to sell Zone Vibe Pro parts
Repairability is meaningless if you can’t find official parts
Looking ahead, the big questions are when Logitech will start selling repair parts, how much they’ll cost, and how long they’ll remain available for purchase. I asked Logitech about these topics, but it didn’t have anything to share just yet. Presumably, they will appear on Logitech’s Spare Parts Store eventually.
Hopefully, Logitech not only holds up its end of the bargain, but other headset manufacturers follow suit. A multi-purpose headset like the Zone Vibe Pro featuring user-replaceable components is a good sign, and to Logitech’s credit, it does have a solid track record of selling spare parts for products in the Zone series.
