DMWF Spotlight: Enterprise teams spend 16.6 hours a week trying to get named by AI. Better writing isn’t what fixes it.

Marketing teams now spend over 16 hours a week on how their brand turns up in AI answers. That’s two working days every week according to WordPress VIP’s “Future of the Web 2026” report. Most teams have no idea what it buys them.
What’s really happening
Someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini a question. The AI generates an answer and cites a few sources. Here’s what’s interesting:
- 86% of people say they always or sometimes check one of those websites
- 42% say AI answers that don’t show where the information came from are the least trustworthy thing online
So getting named is how you get the visit. But people want to know who they’re reading.
It comes down to whether an AI can read your site
Most of those 16.6 hours go into the words on the page. But an AI has to read your site before it can quote it, and enterprise sites are usually hard to read. Your CMS won’t hand the content over cleanly. Your pages bury the text.
Enterprise leaders told us the same thing: 69% said content that isn’t open and easy for a machine to read risks disappearing from AI answers.
What WordPress VIP does about it
- Structures and publishes your content so AI tools can read and quote it, without rebuilding your site
- Shows you in Parse.ly how much traffic AI is sending you, and what it’s worth
WordPress runs 43% of the web, so it’s a big part of what these models trained on. A page published on WordPress VIP hands over clean text, clear labels, and an API if you want one. Pew Research Center runs on it, and the report shows what changed for them.
Being readable gets you found. Getting someone to come back is a different job.
Bob Ralian, Head of Unified Analytics at WordPress VIP, watches traffic across WordPress.com, WordPress VIP, WooCommerce, and Parse.ly, so he sees shifts in where AI sends people before most teams do. He’s running a live demo: “Using Analytics and AI to Build Relationship Intelligence.”
September 10, 12:30 PM · Javits Center, New York
He’ll show how AI assistants are finding your content, how to turn that data into a targeted re-engagement campaign, and a workflow for taking someone from first visit to returning customer.
We’re at booth 18 both days.Read Chapter 2 of Future of the Web 2026 → wpvip.com/future-of-the-web-2026/how-ai-is-changing-seo/
