Preamble
Fifth performs sixth on the Hill Dickinson this lunchtime, in a fixture that isn’t really easy to foretell. Chelsea have shortly established an id beneath Xabi Alonso as the nice entertainers: they’ve scored 15 objectives in six matches, with 13 whistling in down the opposite finish. Their final two outcomes – a 3-0 loss at Brentford adopted by a 5-1 rout of Bournemouth – illustrate what they’re all about proper now. Everton are equally troublesome to pin down, veering between doughty low-scoring shut-out wins (2-0 Palace, 1-0 Ipswich) and rollercoaster 2-2 attracts (Manchester United and Hull City, Ainsley Maitland-Niles the centre of consideration in each video games, for wildly completely different causes). The Toffees additionally stay undefeated, no small feat when you think about the downcast temper across the membership on the finish of an unsuccessful switch window.
Throw in the truth that Chelsea don’t notably like coming to go to the blue half of Merseyside – they’ve misplaced 2-0 and 3-0 on two of their most up-to-date three visits, the opposite being a goalless draw – and so whereas they go into this match as favourites, you wouldn’t precisely danger the farm on it. This may very well be nice enjoyable. Kick-off is at 12.30pm BST. It’s on!
