CJP, Gyanesh Kumar: Tens of hundreds of forces deployed as Delhi braces for cockroach protest

Parts of the Indian capital, Delhi, have been become a fortress, with tens of hundreds of safety forces deployed, because the influential Gen Z-led “cockroach” motion has known as for a significant protest on Saturday.
The protesters are looking for electoral reforms and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of manipulating voters’ lists.
The Election Commission has denied this and Kumar is but to touch upon the resignation demand.
Police say they’ve denied permission for the gathering and all roads resulting in Jantar Mantar, the primary protest venue, have been closed with large metallic barricades.
The restrictions have brought on main disruption throughout central Delhi, with site visitors diverted from a number of key roads. A journey that may usually take quarter-hour took greater than an hour this morning.
At Jantar Mantar, metallic barricades and ropes have been erected across the protest web site, stopping individuals from getting into. Some protesters who arrived early have been stopped and questioned by police and paramilitary personnel deployed within the space.
At a close-by roundabout, loudspeakers repeatedly broadcast appeals for individuals to cooperate with the police.
In a press release posted on X, Delhi Police defended the measures, saying they have been needed to take care of public security and forestall overcrowding at Jantar Mantar, which may accommodate only one,000 individuals at a time.
