Matt Rhule Kicks Off Indiana Week With a “Lanterns” Cameo

As if Indiana weekend wasn’t already very more likely to be an enormous recruiting weekend in Lincoln, the luck of streaming launch dates offered one other large bump Sunday night time when the premiere of the season finale of Lanterns featured an look by Nebraska Head Coach Matt Rhule.

While an enormous shock for many, one can return and skim the tea leaves with 20/20 hindsight and see that the indicators have been form of pointing to all of it alongside.

Lanterns showrunner Chris Mundy is an Omaha native and Westside grad and govt producer Tom Wood has northwest Nebraska ties along with his grandparents being from Rushville, NE.

Guess the place the present takes place.

Rhule’s look was within the season finale, however Nebraska Cornhuskers soccer figures strongly from the soar. Current Green Lantern Hal Jordan reveals up in Rushville suspecting alien exercise and quizzes a suspected outworlder on – you guessed it – Huskers soccer.

Later within the season, it seems the Rushville’s sheriff’s son, Noah, is principally a 5-star QB recruit. No spoilers on the ultimate episode (I have never even seen it but.), but it surely is not too onerous to make the soar to Rhule’s look if we weren’t following the potential destruction of Rushville and, nicely…earth plot just a little tougher.

I imply, Hal Jordan is already giving aliens Husker quizzes and later swearing to Tom Osborne he’s telling the reality. Then there is a highly-ranked in-state QB recruit launched, and his massive sport is coming. In retrospect, how did we not 100% (okay 95%) see Coach Rhule displaying up in Rushville for the large sport??

So what did Rhule must say about it?

First of all, and lots of might know this, it was not filmed lately – “So I filmed that, not this previous summer season, however the summer season (of ’25) earlier than.”

He spoke of getting already recognized Mundy saying “We’d turn into associates, they usually have been doing the present, and it was clearly primarily based in Nebraska. He requested if I’d wish to exit and movie that position, and so I did. And it is an amazing present, by the best way. I’ve loved attempting to catch it right here and there.”

Does Rhule intend to comply with Ceyair Wright’s lead and start engaged on an appearing profession?

“I do not know that I’ll be taking my abilities to Broadway anytime quickly,” he deadpanned to some laughs.

But, to make sure, he spoke nicely of the expertise: “But (it was) actually cool to see Nebraska on HBO and have an opportunity to do it. You know, my daughters have been most likely extra fired up than I used to be. They have been very involved I’d not get my line proper. But actually cool expertise. Very grateful to Chris and his spouse Nilu and all of the people who I met on the set. You know, actually cool folks.”

And it wasn’t missed on Rhule that it was an amazing probability to get the model on the market.

“Anytime somebody’s requested to do one thing, you realize, nationally, I feel it is about getting issues, getting our model on the market as a lot as doable. Like this week, you guys know me fairly nicely – I most likely simply wish to be in my workplace (working), however they arrive to me and say, ‘Can you do that? Can you try this?’ I feel it is (the eye) actually good. I had recruits textual content me final night time, and say, “Coach, I simply noticed you on HBO.”

What about those that marvel if it took away from his soccer duties?

I simply suppose a part of this job, whether or not it is Coach Hoiberg, DBK, Coach Revelle, Jordy (Bahl), Harper (Murray), Andi (Jackson). I feel all of our jobs is simply be sure that we attempt to proceed to place Nebraska, anytime we will, on the market within the forefront of every part. So typically persons are involved about my private time. It (the filming) was after recruiting was over throughout my summer season trip. I do not know if anyone works tougher than me within the international stage, however I’m positive they do. But I simply took a pair time off days and went down there and did that.”

Lanterns has been a really well-reviewed sequence within the DC Universe’s resurgence since James Gunn took over their showrunning. Series and films like The Suicide Squad, The Peacemaker and Superman have been very nicely reviewed and obtained. In Lanterns, Nathon Fillion from Superman made an look alongside stars Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) and John Stewart (Rebel Ridge).

In any case, now you realize about Matt Rhule, TV star, and our consideration can concentrate on Indiana, Curt Cignetti and the defending nationwide champs coming to Lincoln Saturday – the primary defending champs to take action since Texas in 2006.
