Ukrainian Commander Says Flying Drones Disabled 300 Shadow Fleet Ships
A prime Ukrainian drone commander stated on Tuesday that his forces have used uncrewed aerial autos to knock out 300 ships in Russia’s “shadow fleet” over 11 weeks.
Maj. Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, stated as drone crews reached this tally after they attacked and “burned” 21 tankers over the past three days.
The strikes have been a part of a Ukrainian marketing campaign from early July concentrating on the hundreds-strong fleet of service provider tankers assessed to be carrying sanctioned Russian fuel and oil.
While many of those vessels entry Russia from the Baltic, the Ukrainian effort has targeted on the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The marketing campaign has been dubbed Operation MoLoChKa, or an acronym that interprets into “Moscow will fall through Crimea.”
Brovdi stated on his Telegram channel that the uncrewed Systems Forces had disabled 166 ships within the Black Sea and one other 134 within the Sea of Azov.
“The Sea of Azov, together with the Kerch Strait, is closed and can stay so. In the northern and northeastern Black Sea, it’s ‘possibly we’ll slip by means of’ mode,” his assertion stated.
He’s been one of many prime commanders to champion a technique of utilizing mid- and long-range drones to enact a siege of sorts on Crimea, the peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014.
The area is a key logistical hub for Russia’s forces on the southern entrance, and Ukrainian commanders like Brovdi have likened it to a lynchpin of the battle as an entire. The previous few months have seen them hammering roads, bridges, power services, and transport vessels in a bid to choke the peninsula with useful resource shortages.
Notably, Operation MoLoChKa has relied on aerial drones, as counter-jamming, synthetic intelligence, and flight expertise have progressed to the purpose the place Ukraine can use them to extra persistently hit Russia’s rear.
Previously, Kyiv had relied on surface and underwater drones to battle Russia’s navy, driving again its Black Sea Fleet from Ukraine’s coast.
Brovdi’s assertion on Telegram included over two dozen clips that seem to have been shot from drones rushing overhead towards massive vessels on open water.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has launched into a broader, long-range drone assault marketing campaign geared toward Russia’s oil and gas industries, hoping to sap the Kremlin’s capability to pay for and provide its battle effort.
On Tuesday, Ukraine’s armed forces stated they’d knocked out 45% of Russia’s oil refining capability.
